Chocolate Butter Cream Ganache

Oh yeah, baby! Chocolate. This will be a very short blog post, as there is only so much you can say about a simple little cake like this. Double chocolate chip cake filled and iced with whipped all-butter chocolate buttercream and then covered in ganache and decorated in whipped ganache. Even the piping (writing) is ganache. This is my little girl’s favorite cake flavor (she loves ganache) and she literally whimpered when this cake left us. Lucky for her, we’ll be doing her birthday cake in about 4 weeks!  Woo!

Emma’s Chocolate Roses Baby Shower Cake

My beautiful niece, Emily, just had her second baby, little Bayze James Penn, this past summer. I really wanted to make her favorite:  a triple chocolate cake filled and iced with chocolate butter cream – but July is my super crazy time of the year, and I just couldn’t swing anything very  elaborate.


With rosettes on the side and a fondant baby and blanket tossed on top, we barely made this a “baby shower” cake, but it served its purpose. Pregnant mommy got her heart’s content full of chocolate cake and all was well with the world. 


Now, 5 months later, here is my darling great-nephew, Bayze, posing with the most adorable little girl EVER, his big sister and my great-niece, Heidi Marie. This is one of my favorite pictures of them – Heidi’s pokey lip cracks me up. I love these babies and I love their momma! (And did I mention their momma loves my chocolate cake?)

Molly Made It! Double Chocolate Chip Sour Cream Pound Cake with Chocolate Hazelnut Drizzle

Reader Beware: I’m being “that mom” for a minute and bragging on my child. My little one baked this chocolate chip sour cream pound cake with chocolate hazelnut drizzle while I was at work (with permission, of course). I just can’t help but wonder how many 13 year old girls can do that? Not only was it flawless in appearance, it was moist and delicious. When I got home the house smelled amazing. Ever had leftover cake? This entire thing was devoured. Molly is already quite the little cook and is really just a whiz with a stove; I think we can officially add the oven to her list. I’m so proud of her.

Robert’s Chocolate Chocolate Chocolate (Triple Chocolate) Cake

After Robert’s “21st” birthday cake I made for him last year (see it here or here), it’s just been made official: at the ripe old age of 22, he’s now too old for a “cutesy” cake. But he’s definitely not too old for a “double chocolate chip chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream, hazlenut-infused chocolate buttercream accents, and tempered dark chocolate curls.” And that is exactly what he got, courtesy of his mom and one of my best friends, Denise.  Short and sweet best describes today’s post and this delectable cake.  Just one little quote from his momma: “When did you start putting crack in your cakes? Thank you, Nathan, for thinking about your lovely wife, Amanda, and asking me to make a birthday cake for her. This sweet girl is one of my biggest and most *favoritest* “cake supporters,” and to be able to bake a cake for her birthday was a real honor. She loves chocolate, so chocolate is what she got: double chocolate chip with whipped chocoIate butter-crème filling and icing. I used the easy-peasy Wilton 1M tip “swirly rose” method to ice it (technique tutorial found here) and rumor has it that our birthday girl was eating cake by breakfast time.
